Hresult 0x88780078 No Drivers For Mac
Everything was just fine until I recently installed SP3 on Lenovo M50 8187 PUT. I lost both ( internal Soundmax & firewire external Profire 2626) devices in 'Sound & audio devices' BUT BOTH are 'working properly' in Device Manager. I lost system sounds, DVD sound, Nero showtime, quicktime and media player.BUT.

Protools and Nero Waveeditor see the external firewire device and play just fine. I couldn't install KB888111 (SP3) but did install KB835221. No help there. I spent much time w/ techs from all three. Techs really wanted to help, but to no avail. I don't think the problem is the sound cards.
May 17, 2007 It took me some time to figure this one out. It's not the sound card, it's not the driver set of the sound card. It's not XP, it's not the driver set of the chipset on the mother board, it's not DirectX. HRESULT 0X88780078 NO DRIVERS FOR MAC - It's definitely a windows problem, as a number of people said that they'd had it occur on a dual boot machine and had sound with their other OS, but not windows.
Device manager sees everything and reports 'working properly'. I removed the PCI modem card and replaced w/ TI chipset firewire card, which started right up and ran my external firewire audio device just fine.
In fact, it, the entire system, worked great AND EVERYBODY SAW EVERYTHING until SP3. Why does XP SP3 Device Manager see the devices, Why doesn't 'Sounds and Audio devices see them and why does the music tab in dxdiag play sounds but the sound tab post the HRESULT error shown above?
I'm spooked!! Halima, also, Which driver is missing??? (dxdiag ERROR = NO DRIVER) As I stated above, all the techs wanted to help but were as stymied as I. To be clear, I have all the latest drivers for the third party stuff and for the Intel chipset, HDaud, etc. Pro tools and Nero Wave Editor see the Profire 2626 but not the internal MB sound card.
They are the only two programs that see any sound devices. If I could, I would use firewire audio as default but 'sounds & audio devices' sees nada. Do you know which driver we have overlooked?? Having re-read your post you have a Firewire and you also use on-board sound???
That is a recipie for disaster. Disable the on-board sound in the BIOS and live with the ProFire. I have a Presonus FS26x26 which I use as a sound card when using Sonar as my DAW and playing games etc.
I don't see the need to turn on the Realtek on-board on my PC when the Presonus can do the job x times better (quality above all.) Your call, but you probably have a conflict, caused perhaps by sp3 (shouldn't have done so though). What you could try is un plugging your ProFire. Then un-install anything to do with your Soundmax. RE-boot and re-install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website. (Or turn it off in the BIOS.;-)))) Once you've got it working you can then think about plugging back in the Firewire (for ProTools), at your risk of another conflict. One thing though, make sure in ProTools that your Soundmax is not selected as a sound device, input or output.
